Debbie`s Story

Debbie is the daughter of two service users we have been caring for over a period of 4 ½ years.

In April 2020, Lyn spoke to Jane (Director) about how Kerrier Homecare has impacted on not only her mother – but also her father. Our dedicated team provided care for Debbie`s father for some time, until he sadly passed away. Therefore Debbie is very familiar not only with our carers who come in and look after her mother now, but also experienced the compassion our team demonstrated during her father’s final days.

Kerrier Homecare has become a part of Debbie`s life in recent years, and she explained to Jane how this is valued to her and her close family:

“Kerrier Homecare has been central to all our lives over the past few years, initially looking after my Dad when he was very poorly – until the day we sadly lost him. I can honestly say that the Kerrier Homecare team added real value to the quality of Dad`s life and took so much pressure of both my Mum`s shoulders and all of us as a family.

The carers become well known to us, and we could see clearly that it meant a great deal to them to be able to support us on so many levels. Not just the direct care for my Dad at that time, but also the friendship and support for our family when times were difficult. Often a cup of tea and chat with Mum would help Dad to feel better on difficult days. Then of course the Kerrier Homecare team became carers for Mum as well, and we knew they would be so reliable, caring and compassionate every single day.

No matter what was going on in their own lives, the carers were always bright, cheerful and supportive. The office team is always fantastic at communicating with us, always take my calls when I need to speak to someone – and often Jane herself gives time to me from her busy day to speak on the phone and offer whatever support she is able to give us.

I never feel anxious when I need to call them, and always feel confident that (no matter what the problem might be), Jane and the team will find a way to fix it. Trust is so important, we sleep better at night knowing with absolute certainty that Mum is going to be looked after so well and by the most caring, compassionate people we know.

To put our faith in Kerrier Homecare into some context, we feel, as a family, that if we could afford to pay for it – we would have their carers in 24 hours a day!”

Daughter of Service User:

"Thank you so much for all you did for my Dad, we have had occasions to use carers in the past and have never had care like you have provided. All the staff treated our Dad with such respect, dignity, kindness and fun, he really loved them all. They also gave us a lot of support by not letting us feel guilty for the things we couldn't do."

District Nursing Team:

"Thank you for your excellent care with palliative care patients. We would like to use your service again in the future."

Derek`s Story

Derek has been a Kerrier Homecare service user for several years.

In April, he spoke to Jane and Sam (Director / Deputy Manager), about how Kerrier Homecare has impacted on his life during the time we have cared for him. Derek is very well known to Jane, as he calls the office most days to say hello, ask how we all are and (in particular) advises Jane to take it easy and look after herself.

This mutual goodwill is something we cherish, and even on days when Jane doesn't really have the available time to speak to Derek on the phone - she never rushes the call and affords him the respect and time he deserves. The team is acutely conscious of the minimal outside contact our service users experience during any given week, and we always put them first.

Kerrier Homecare has become a big and important part of Derek`s life in recent years, and he explained how this is valued to her and her close family:

“Jane and the team are lovely and really make a difference to my day. I can call her anytime and ask which carers are coming to see me today, and I always ask her how she is. Jane works very hard and needs to rest more!

If I think the carers or Kerrier Homecare could do something better, I tell them - and they don`t mind. They are really good to me and look after my every need, and I think they really deserve an award for all their hard work.

If anyone needs care in their home in our area, I always tell them to ring Kerrier Homecare! They do loads for me when they visit, they are always smiling and pleased to see me, and make me feel special.

I look forward to it every day, and I think they look forward to seeing me too!”
