Katy`s Story
One of our most passionate carers is Katy, who also now focuses on compliance and ensuring the whole team always maintains outstanding care standards.
Katy has contributed in her own words, spoken truly from the heart:
“After studying extremely hard to qualify as a dental nurse and being in the job for 9 years I really did not think I would ever want to change my career - but unfortunately our practice was taken over by corporates and ended up being money oriented, which sadly made the job not an option for myself anymore.
My sister had always loved being a carer and was proud to be part of such a great care company, so I applied for a job with Kerrier Homecare about 3 years ago. I can honestly say that it was the best decision I have made career wise. Being a support worker for Kerrier Homecare does not feel like “a job”. I wake up every day excited and happy to make a difference to other people's lives and look forward to seeing my colleagues and working as a team to make the day run smoothly for everyone. The passion, empathy and selflessness of all members of the Kerrier Homecare team is immense and it humbles me daily watching the relationships between the carers and service users. The team are incredible.
A lot of the carers have had a lot of personal issues at home, but their strength and compassion shines through when they are working, because you really would not know that any of this is going on. They always put the service users first and make every minute of the visit about them making sure they are comfortable, clean and fed but most importantly that they feel valued and cared for. My favourite part of the day is walking into a service users’ home and seeing the beaming smile on their face. Having a laugh and joke with them but remaining professional and providing dignity, privacy and choice.
Kerrier Homecare has brought out my confidence immensely and opened my eyes to a part of the world which a lot of us do not see. We work all hours, weekends, evenings, holidays and Christmas. When we do get home our minds are still working as we are thinking about the clients that are home on their own. Our service users are a second family to us all. We treat our clients as we would our own family. We worry about them like they are our own family and we go above and beyond for them as we would our own family.
Our manager is an inspiration to us all. Starting this business off from nothing, Jane literally works day and night to keep the company running to the high standards it is today. Jane does all she can to make the team happy in their jobs and always puts everything down to talk to her clients and Team. As she always says, " They come first".
I am truly proud to be part of the team”
